Timeline
In the period between 2003 and 2022, Kazakhstan hosted seven Congresses of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions. These meetings became an important international platform for constructive dialogue between followers of various religious traditions and world leaders. The Congresses brought together representatives of Islam, Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Zoroastrianism, Shintoism, Taoism, the Baháʼí Faith, Jainism, as well as political and state figures, and representatives of international, religious, and public organizations, including the UN, the UN Alliance of Civilizations, the OSCE, UNESCO, the OIC, and the World Council of Churches.

Among the distinguished guests were such prominent figures as Pope Francis, Sheikh Ahmed el-Tayeb (Al-Azhar), Patriarch Kirill, Patriarch Theophilos III of Jerusalem, Israel’s Chief Rabbies David Lau and Yitzhak Yosef, as well as political and public leaders including King Abdullah II of Jordan, former President of Finland Sauli Niinistö, former President of Israel Shimon Peres, and former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.
